ASANA – THE THIRD LIMB
MAIREAD FLYNN
‘By following and staying with the limbs of Yoga, the obstacles to clear
perception are reduced. Then the light of perception brightens and discernment becomes more and more evident’ Yoga Sutra 2:28
Patanjali presents his 8 limbs as different and complimentary ways towards
discernment ‘viveka’ – the ability to discern the difference between what is deep in me and what is superficial. To put it more philosophically, viveka is the ability to see the difference between seer and seen, purusa and prakrti.
Today is an exploration of the three sutras (just 3!) that refer to asana – taking time to practice, enjoy and hopefully experience how asana can be a very rewarding doorway to viveka.
Probably all of us would admit that we put yoga philosophy and yoga practice into fairly separate compartments. It’s as if yoga philosophy was written down hundreds of years ago and yoga practice is what we do on the mat today. It is Mairead’s hope that this workshop will bring the two a bit closer together - that we might experience yoga ‘philosophy’ alive and well and taking flesh in our practice!

YOGA FOR PREGNANCY
WITH TRISH MALONE
During this workshop Trish will Share her experience of working with pregnant women for over a decade. After completing her training in 1996, she then worked at The Active Birth Centre in London before returning to Ireland in 1998. She now lives and works in Leixlip. Co. Kildare.
The following topics will be covered in the morning session: the changes in a woman’s body during pregnancy, problems and contra-indications in pregnancy. foetal positioning and how yoga can help. The afternoon session will be more practical, working through some postures and how they are best taught in pregnancy. This gives everyone the opportunity to roll out their mats and practise some yoga. Trish would hope that teachers will finish the day feeling more confident and informed when faced with pregnant students in their classes.
