As at 20.00 Friday 17 Feb 12, three places remain.
In this interesting and enjoyable day, YFNI's patron, Dr Ruth Gilmore will explore the structure and functioning of the hip and knee joints. She will use a combination of everyday language, illustrations and anatomical models.
Common conditions such as osteoarthritis, knee injuries and hip/knee replacement will be described, and modifications for these conditions in yoga practice discussed and practised. Theory sessions will be short, and there will be lots of time for questions and the sharing of experience within the group.
Saturday 18 February will be suitable for both yoga teachers and interested practitioners of any level of experience. A detailed handout will be available by e-mail after the day for those who wish to have it.
About Ruth
Ruth Gilmore PhD was a full-time lecturer at the QUB for many years, first in Physiology and then in Anatomy, until she took early retirement in order to devote more time to yoga. In 1996 she qualified as a yoga teacher with the YFNI, and has since acquired additional training and expertise in the use of yoga for medical conditions and pregnancy. From 2000 to 2008 she taught at her own studio in Belfast, providing general classes and yoga therapy sessions. In 2008 Ruth and her husband moved to England to be nearer to their family.
Ruth, pictured with Margaret O'Neill (YFNI Chair) has presented numerous educational and training courses on yoga, anatomy and medical topics in the UK, Republic of Ireland and elsewhere. She provides a variety of both in-service training sessions and general days for British Wheel of Yoga members all over the UK. In 2011 Ruth was the plenary speaker at the BWY Congress. She particularly enjoys sharing her unique combination of yoga and medical knowledge with yoga teachers and trainees, so that they too can feel confident working with students in all circumstances.
For ten years Ruth wrote a popular monthly column in Yoga & Health, and has contributed to a number of yoga books. She is the author of “Relieve Stress” in the Yoga for Living series (Dorling Kindersley, 2002) and of "Ask Ruth" (2006) and “more Ask Ruth ”(2010), compilations of the first and second five years of her monthly column in Yoga & Health.
