Embodied Peacebuilding – conflict resolution with a difference!

Mark Walsh

"Take yoga off the mat and into your life"

A first for yoga in Northern Ireland - Mark Walsh, founder of Embodied Yoga Principles, visits Belfast.

Mark is renowned for his work in conflict zones around the world as yoga teacher, trainer and leadership coach.  During his first trip to Belfast he is working with cross community groups in Gridwood Community Hub (North Belfast) to show how a physical approach to peace building can move mountains where dialogue has perhaps failed.

The event on 5 May in Girdwood is exclusively for the community sector but Mark does feature as part of the Yoga Fellowship of Northern Ireland’s 2017 programme of events on Saturday 6 May in NICVA.  It will be a unique opportunity to meet and work with this gritty man of action who combines yoga with Mindfulness and conflict resolution as he shows us how we can use this in our own lives - taking yoga off the mat and into our lives.

Coming from a martial arts background Mark aims to help people move beyond their differences using the body and the breath in a dynamic way to shift old patterns and thoughts.  It is an opportunity to move forward and experience self-motivated change in an active way.

Lisa Copeland, Yoga Fellowship Chairperson, said:

“The Yoga Fellowship will shortly mark 40 years working in Northern Ireland and having Mark Walsh take his first trip to Northern Ireland is a great way to launch our celebrations.

“YFNI has a reputation for innovation and leading the way.  This prominent yogi, who is recognised world-wide for his extensive work in conflict resolution both personal and group based, is yet another example of the pioneering work the Fellowship has undertaken since its inception.”

Previous yoga experience is not essential for this event...just a willingness to try something new that could help resolve inner conflict.  Enthusiasm, a sense of humour and relaxed comfortable clothes are, however, essential.

Mark is a recognised expert in the field of conflict, trauma recovery and reconciliation and has worked with groups across the globe, from Sierra Leone and Ethiopia to Israel and Afghanistan.  This is a great opportunity to experience a different approach to conflict resolution within ourselves and with others around us.
